Glipses from the seminar on corruption in supply chain

On the 2^nd of December, IMM hosted a seminar with EY and Transparency International Sweden concerning corruption in the supply chain.

After opening speakers from the hosts, the keynote speakers were introduced; Petter Törnquist (Ethic and Compliance, Group Legal Affairs, Saab), Malin Sandqusit (Head of Legal, Systembolaget) and Michaela Ahlberg (Ethic and Compliance, TeliaSonera).

Petter Törnquist started by listing important risk factors among companies, that actors in procurements should be aware of. He later applied these factors to the work of Saab to demonstrate how they are actively working to minimize these risks. Further on, Petter Törnqusit emphasised companies’ responsibility to turn down jobs where a corruption free environment cannot be granted.

Malin Sandquist described the experience of Systembolaget in relation to their follow-up of already established suppliers and how they have used their experiences to strengthen their anticorruption work. Among other things increase internal monitoring and facilitation of reporting channels has been improved.

Further on, Michaela Ahlberg stressed the importance of not using a too strong Vision Zero approach regarding corruption. In order to carry out effective and sustainable work, the complexity and extent of corruption must be addressed. The problem will otherwise be simplified and the key questions will neither be touched upon nor solved.

The seminar ended in a panel-discussion where the abovementioned speakers participated. Among other questions, the relation between corruption and development was raised, as well as the importance of managements’ understanding of corruption and management setting a good example.
