What can be done to support all the companies that choose to say no to corruption?

17 January 2014

In an article written in (in Swedish) SvD 17/01-13 the question on whether Sweden needs to review the system of corporate fines is raised. The background is a settlement in Norway this week where a company admitted to grand corruption and agreed to pay a fine of 295 million NOK.

Many Swedish companies are eager on fighting corruption which also leads to some of them leaving markets where corruption cannot be avoided. At the same time there can be other stakeholders on that market that choose to pay a bribe to win a contract. An act that negatively affect the market and will make it much more difficult for those who choose to “act clean”!

Honesty always pays off in the long run but the question that needs to be raised is what we can do to support all those who work against corruption. The good examples should be lifted but if one breaks the rules, it has to hurt!
